THE SECOND INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP OF DISCOURSE PROCESSING (IWDP 2020)

OVERVIEW

Natural languages, from bottom to top, are composed of several linguistic units including word, phrase, clause, sentence, paragraph, and discourse. A discourse is an instance of language use whose type can be classified based on such factors as grammatical and lexical choices and their distribution in main versus supportive materials, theme, style, and the framework of knowledge and expectations within which the addressee interprets the discourse. Like words in a sentence, sentences in a text are closely related. The proposed oneday workshop will be about computational approaches to discourse processing. The First International Workshop of Discourse Processing (IWDP) was held in Guangzhou, China in November, 2018. Twelve scholars from USA, UK, Germany and China were invited to deliver keynote speeches at that workshop and 46 attendees sang high praise for that workshop. A high demand for discourse processing research to hold such a routine workshop bio-annually. Four Chinese institutes are willing to co-organise such a workshop again and wish to conduct it as a routine workshop in the future.
